Reading, Pa - The national organization, South Asians for Opportunity are supporting Manan Trivedi today in its first round of endorsements of the 2010 election cycle. An independent, progressive political grassroots group, SAFO's mission is to engage the South Asian American community around issues of common concern.
In its own press release announcing the endorsement, SAFO stated that "[t]hrough his experience, Manan has been on the front lines of the varied challenges facing our country - from fixing our health care system at home to caring for our troops both during and after their deployments."
SAFO originally formed as South Asians for Obama during the 2008 presidential campaign and has continued under the new name to continue its commitment to positive progressive change.
"By becoming a leader in Congress, I hope to demonstrate to all South Asian Americans that we can make a difference by getting involved in the civic life of America at all levels," said Trivedi. "Working with the leadership and members of SAFO, I know that we will be able to accomplish the right kind of change our nation needs with progressive values at the heart of our work," Trivedi concluded.
Manan Trivedi is an Iraq War veteran, a former Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy and a primary care physician from Reading, Pa.
